A Clear Plan to Protect Our Families and Strengthen Our Community
Public safety works best when leadership is experienced, prepared, and focused on people.
As your Sheriff, I will lead with common sense, compassion, accountability, and a deep respect for our community. My goal is simple: to make sure every family feels safe, every deputy feels supported, and every taxpayer knows their resources are being used wisely.
Here is how I will meet the challenges facing Washington County.
The United States Constitution is the foundation of our freedom and our system of justice. As Sheriff, I will always defend the rights of the people I serve while ensuring our deputies are well-trained, professional, and accountable.
Protecting public safety and protecting constitutional rights go hand in hand. When law enforcement respects individual liberties, trust grows and communities become stronger.
I will make constitutional policing a top priority by investing in ongoing, high-quality training for every deputy. This training will focus on helping deputies understand not just what they can do under the law, but what they should do to protect the rights of every citizen.
My focus will include:
First Amendment: Protecting freedom of speech, religion, and peaceful assembly, while ensuring public safety at community events and demonstrations.
Second Amendment: Respecting the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms, while enforcing the law responsibly and fairly.
Fourth Amendment: Upholding protections against unreasonable searches and seizures, and ensuring warrants and evidence collection meet legal standards.
Fifth Amendment: Safeguarding due process rights and ensuring fair treatment for every person in the justice system.
In addition, I will prioritize:
Regular legal and constitutional training for deputies
Clear policies that reflect current law
Strong supervision and accountability
Ongoing review of procedures to prevent violations
Reducing costly lawsuits and protecting taxpayers
Respect for the Constitution is not optional—it is our duty.
As Sheriff, I will lead with integrity, defend individual rights, and ensure every deputy understands that protecting freedom is central to protecting our community.
Managing Growth With Smart Policing
As our county continues to grow, law enforcement must grow responsibly with it. I will use data, experience, and community input to ensure deputies are deployed where they are needed most. That means improving response times, maintaining strong coverage in both rural and urban areas, and planning ahead instead of reacting after problems arise.
Growth should never come at the cost of safety. With careful planning and strong leadership, we can keep our neighborhoods secure while preparing for the future.
Supporting and Retaining Our Deputies
Our deputies are the heart of public safety. When they are supported, trained, and valued, our community benefits.
As Sheriff, I will prioritize:
High-quality training
Modern equipment
Wellness and mental health resources
Fair and consistent leadership
A positive, professional work culture
I will work to recruit strong candidates, retain experienced deputies, and create an environment where people are proud to serve.
Fighting Dangerous Drugs at the Source
Illegal drugs—especially fentanyl—are destroying families and taking lives. We cannot ignore this threat.
My approach will focus on:
Targeting traffickers and dealers
Strengthening regional partnerships
Supporting prevention and education
Protecting youth and vulnerable populations
We must be firm with criminals and supportive of families working to break the cycle of addiction.
Improving Responses to Mental Health and Homelessness Calls
Many emergency calls involve people in crisis who need help, not handcuffs.
I will expand partnerships with mental health providers, social services, and community organizations to improve how these calls are handled. By connecting people with proper resources, we can reduce repeat calls, protect public order, and use law enforcement resources more effectively.
Compassion and accountability can—and must—work together.
Operating a Safe and Accountable Jail
Our county jail plays a critical role in public safety. When it is well-managed, it protects officers, inmates, and the community.
As Sheriff, I will prioritize:
Strong training and supervision for detention officers
Adequate staffing to reduce burnout
Safe and secure facilities
Mental health and wellness support for staff
I will work to create a professional, supportive environment where detention officers can do their jobs safely and effectively.
At the same time, I will ensure inmates are treated with dignity and fairness by prioritizing:
Safe and clean living conditions
Access to medical and mental health care
Fair housing and classification decisions
Clear communication and grievance processes
Opportunities for education, treatment, and reentry support
By supporting our staff and maintaining high standards for inmate care, we can operate a jail that protects public safety, respects rights, and reflects the values of Washington County.
Ensuring Strong Coverage in Rural Areas
Every resident—no matter where they live—deserves a timely emergency response.
I will work to improve rural coverage through smarter deployment, improved communications, and stronger mutual aid partnerships. Geography should never determine the quality of service someone receives.
Building Trust Through Transparency
Public trust is earned through honesty, consistency, and accountability.
As Sheriff, I will:
Communicate clearly during major incidents
Provide accessible public information
Enforce policies fairly
Hold myself and my staff accountable
Remain approachable and engaged
You deserve leadership you can trust.
Responsible Use of Taxpayer Dollars
Every dollar we spend belongs to the people of this county.
I will manage resources carefully by:
Prioritizing essential services
Seeking cost-effective solutions
Planning long-term investments
Ensuring financial transparency
Working with local, state, and federal partners to share resources, avoid waste, and make sure taxpayer dollars are used wisely.
Strong public safety and fiscal responsibility go hand in hand.
Strengthening Partnerships Across Agencies
No agency can do this work alone.
I will continue building strong working relationships with city departments, state partners, federal agencies, and neighboring counties. Cooperation improves emergency response, investigations, and disaster preparedness.
When agencies work together, communities are safer.
